SAN DIEGO – An outbreak of diarrheal sicknesses, together with instances of E. coli an infection, has sickened about 300 Marines-in-coaching at Marine Corps Depot San Diego, base officers introduced Tuesday.
Ten recruits have been admitted to an off-base hospital, and the rest are being cared for aboard the army station close to Lindbergh Area, army officers reported.
“Our instant focus is figuring out, isolating and treating recruits who current signs,” stated Brig. Gen. William Jurney, commanding common, MCRD San Diego and the Western Recruiting Area. “We’re working to determine the reason for the illness, ensuring our affected recruits can return to coaching as quickly as attainable and persevering with coaching for recruits not influenced.”
The supply of the outbreak is beneath investigation, authorities say.
Nearly all of the greater than 5,500 recruits presently in coaching are unaffected and coaching as scheduled.
