Protesters call on Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe to resign

Zimbabweans gathered in large numbers in downtown Harare on Saturday demanding the resignation of beleaguered President Robert Mugabe. Mugabe, 93, made his first public appearance on Friday since he and his wife put under house arrest by Zimbabwe’s army earlier this week. The army denied staging a military coup and said “normalcy” would soon return after it completed its “mission” of rooting out “criminals” who were targeting the nation’s leader. According to reports, the catalyst for the takeover was the firing of Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who Mugabe accused of plotting to take over from him.

Museum of the Bible opens amid controversy

Located within sight of the U.S. Capitol, the 430,000-square-foot building includes 1,600 artifacts including Elvis Presley’s Bible. The museum’s original mission was “to inspire confidence in the absolute authority and reliability of the Bible,” but officials say it’s now simply to showcase Christian ideals.
