Daytona Worldwide Speedway’s Magic of Lights

We don’t do snow in Florida, but we do make Florida glisten with our elaborate light displays during the holidays.

This year a massive display lights up the Daytona International Speedway.

“We started outside the stadium then brought lights inside the stadium as well and then came back outside the stadium,” Magic of Lights Holiday Display Construction Site manager, Scott Buetow said.

In a 30-minute drive, Daytona International Speedway visitors will weave in and underneath the Speedway. This allows drivers and their passengers a behind-the-scenes look at the stadium while also getting into the holiday spirit. Even Santa Claus makes a few appearances at the Magic of Lights Holiday Display.

“We wanted to give the people of the community and to celebrate the holiday’s here at the world center of racing, turning it from the world center of racing to the world center of the holidays,” President of Daytona International Speedway Corporation, Chip Wile said.

There are so many lights in the display that if someone were to stretch them all out they would expand more than 10 miles.

“We’ve incorporated a Florida, and race car theme here at the Stadium. We’ve got a back-flipping Santa on a Motorcycle!” Buetow said.

The Magic of Lights display will be open every day from now through New Year’s. Gates open at dusk, but the facility closes at 10 p.m. every evening.

Tickets are only $20 if purchased in advance for regular sized vehicles, but are $25 if purchased on site. Larger vehicles like limousines or 15-passenger vans cost $40 in advance or $50 at the gates.

Although this is the first year of the Magic of Lights Holiday Display at the speedway, longer lines have been noted at peak hours around 7 p.m. on the weekends.
