Nationwide park charges waived for MLK Jr.’s birthday

Strap up your shoes, get the family and head to a national park as fees will be waived Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.

It’s one of four days this year that the National Park Service will waive fees.

Last year the federal government proposed increasing entry fees to $70 per vehicle at 17 parks to generate money to improve infrastructure like roads, bridges, campgrounds and bathrooms.

The Park Service could finish reviewing public comments on the fees by the end of February, The Salt Lake Tribune reported.

The park service oversees more than 400 national parks.
