Police: Carjackers abandon child from minivan in Oak Park before crash


CHICAGO (WLS) —

Police stated two youngsters are in custody for allegedly stealing a minivan from the Galewood neighborhood on Chicago’s Northwest Aspect, abandoning a toddler who was inside in west suburban Oak Park after which crashing the car within the West Aspect Austin neighborhood.

At 6:18 p.m., a lady left her 1999 White Pontiac minivan unattended and operating with a 2-yr-previous baby inside whereas she stopped at a Galewood pizza place and ran inside to select up a perform order.

Whereas she was contained in the restaurant, police stated two youngsters within the car and drove off.

Police stated they deserted the little boy a few half a mile away, leaving him within the chilly on the porch of an Oak Park house. They banged on the door and drove off. The household inside opened the door to seek out the kid standing there, alone.

“I type of picked him up, juggling him, telling him it was going to be okay. He clearly needed to return to his mother and father,” stated the lady who discovered him.

Police stated the toddler was not injured.

As police reunited the toddler together with his mother and father, investigators stated the youngsters crashed the minivan at Jackson and Central within the Austin neighborhood of Chicago. Police took them into custody on the scene.

Particulars on the circumstances of the crash have been unknown.

Fees have been pending Monday night time as Space North detectives investigated the incident.
