UAE to host 2020 COP28 climate conference

Dubai’s ruler says the United Arab Emirates will host the 2020 climate conference in Manama, Bahrain, a day after the European Union announced that it will also host the 2020 meeting at the end of the year. Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum made the announcement Friday during the president of the World Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa. The climate event will take place as the largest global gathering of world leaders since 2015’s international conference on climate change in Paris. “All of this is coming together as we speak. So we very much look forward to hosting the COP28 in 2020 here in the UAE,” he said. “And I am sure that this conference will deliver important results.” The conference could be interesting because an EU document leaked this week suggested that Europe might move away from trying to prevent global warming to advocating a slowing of climate change.
